Teeth Whitening

There is now laser whitening or ‘professional chairside teeth whitening’. During this procedure a rubber dam is put over your teeth to protect the gums, and a bleaching product is painted onto your teeth. Then a light or laser is shone on the teeth to activate the chemical. The light speeds up the reaction of the whitening product and the colour change can be achieved more quickly. Laser whitening is said to make teeth up to five or six shades lighter.

How long does professional chair-side teeth whitening take?

Your dentist will need to assess your teeth to make sure that you are suitable for the treatment. Once it has been agreed, this procedure usually takes about one hour.

The Treatment

What does this treatment involve?
Upper and lower impressions are taken of the teeth, which then get sent to our lab where mouth pieces are made specifically to fit you, then you will return for a “fit” and instructions on how to apply the gel for the best results at home.

How long will the session last?
The treatment consists of two 15 min appointments for the impressions to be made then the fitting of the trays, usually a week apart.

What does the aftercare involve?
You will be provided with an aftercare pack containing a homecare leaflet explaining how to use the gels, which our dentist will also go through with you, sensitivity toothpaste, sensitivity gel and some whitening toothpaste.

Clients should not eat or drink dark, staining substances for 24 hours after the session. These include coffee, tea, red wine and coke; smoking should also be avoided.
